Annise Brunice Whitehead Shirah Jackson, known affectionately as Annise, was a beacon of love and gentleness in the lives of all who knew her. Born on September 4th, 1935, she embarked on a journey of unwavering kindness that touched countless hearts until her peaceful passing on June 5th, 2024, in Midland City, Alabama.
Annise's life was a testament to love's enduring power. Annise's journey began as the daughter of the late Daniel Webster Whitehead and Minnie Lee Proctor Whitehead. She was the cherished wife of C. B. "Buddy" Jackson for 67 glorious years, a bond that stood as a testament to commitment and affection. Her family was her world; she was a loving sister to Harley Whitehead, Daniel Lee Whitehead, and Minnie Peal Collins, a devoted mother to Annise Lenora Shirah Graham, Jerry Shirah, and Shirley Ann Coker, a caring adoptive mother to Cassandra Dawn Jackson Betsill and Autumn Danielle Jackson Stevens. Annise's legacy further blossomed with eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored immensely. Though she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Daniel Lee Whitehead, her sister Minnie Pearl Collins, and her daughter Shirley Ann Coker, Annise's love and memories remain etched in the hearts of her family.
Annise dedicated her professional life to quality control at Ansell, where she worked until her well-deserved retirement. But Annise's story is not solely defined by her work; it is illuminated by her vibrant character. She was the breath of fresh air in any room, her sweet and caring nature the glue that held her family together. Annise had a great sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to those around her. Her hands, once active in the art of crochet, were more often found embracing her loved ones or casting a line into the water, as she loved to fish. Annise's nurturing spirit shone brightest in her unwavering dedication to raising her children, many of her grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. She was the embodiment of unconditional love, always there for her family, ensuring they knew they were loved and taken care of.
It's said that "The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness" (Honoré de Balzac). Annise lived by this creed, her heart an endless source of forgiveness and warmth. Her family misses her dearly already and will never stop missing her. Yet, in the wake of their loss, they find solace in the celebration of her remarkable life.
A celebration of Annise's life will be held at 11 am on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Tim Stevenson officiating. Annise will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to grow and flourish. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 10-11 am, an hour of sharing memories and honoring the life of a truly remarkable woman.
As we reflect on Annise's life, let us carry forward her legacy of love and kindness. In honor of her memory, may we strive to be a source of joy and support for those around us, just as she was for so many. Annise's life was a beautiful journey of love, and her story will continue to inspire and motivate all who were blessed to know her.
