Andrea Cherish Evans

June 8, 1976 — December 10, 2022

Dothan

Andrea Cherish “Dreezy” Evans went to be with Jesus surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, December 10, 2022, after a brief illness.

Andrea was born to Ronald and Arloa (Dell) Evans on June 8, 1976 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Andrea graduated as Salutatorian from Northside Methodist Academy, then went on to earn a diploma of Practical Theology from Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas, a bachelor degree in English from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, a Masters in Education Degree from Southeastern University, and a Masters Degree in English from Troy University.

Andrea’s career was spent  working with children and youth. She began at a young age as a babysitter. She went on to work at daycare centers and summer camps until she began her work as a teacher. Inspired by her high school English teacher, Marla Reynolds, she began the work of inspiring her own students to love learning.

After a back injury, she moved near her family in Dothan for her extensive recovery. She defied all the negative reports and worked her way from a wheelchair to walking and returned to the classroom. She discovered a deep passion for teaching kids who fell through the cracks of the school system. She began teaching GED prep for students who needed a second, third, or tenth chance, and she loved cheering them on. At the time of her passing, she was the Site Coordinator for Adult Education at Wallace Community College - Sparks Campus.

Andrea lived her life intentionally. Her every word was measured and filtered through love. Even if it was calling someone up and out of “foolishness”, she loved with an open hand and gave generously of her time and resources to those around her.

Andrea exemplified a life lived for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She walked it out on a daily basis with each person with whom she came into contact. Several years of her life were spent as a volunteer youth pastor.. She mentored, taught, and gave with sacrificial love. With a simple, “What do you need to tell me?”, she could begin a life changing conversation. She loved well and never left the important things unsaid.

Andrea loved road trips, audio books, good food, and spending time with her friends. When she wasn’t out changing the world, you would find her snuggling her nieces, sipping an iced coffee, talking, and watching TV with her family and friends.  She took amazing care of her mom and dad.

Andrea leaves behind her parents, Arloa Dawn (Dell) Evans and Ronald Douglas Evans; a sister, Adriane (Evans) Adams (Fr. Ari); a brother, Michael Evans (Brooke); nieces and nephews, Aislinn Adams, Ana Adams, Duncan Adams, Malcolm Adams, Megan Evans, Molly Evans; her dog child, Rascal; many friends and god-children she loved as her very own.

A celebration of her life will take place Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 2:30PM. The family will receive visitors from 1-2 PM. A graveside service will follow. The service will be hosted at Sunset Memorial with Pastor John Dowdey officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Shon Holton, Ben Brown, John Brown, Andy Dell, Peter Dell, and Bill Brobst.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Southeast Health, especially in the CCU department, for their phenomenal care during her stay, as well as the friends who visited, brought food, and prayed. Her family and friends are assured that they will see her again in heaven, and what a sweet day that will be.

Flowers are welcome and contributions can be made to launch the Andrea C. Evans Scholarship fund through Church at the Crossing.
