John Leslie Meyers, father, husband, pilot and veteran, died on November 9, 2023, at the age of 79 surrounded by his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents; father Leslie Gnagey Meyers and mother Leila O'Neal Fiveash, daughter, Wendy Lea Weber, and brother Patrick Fiveash Meyers. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Seipert Meyers, and his remaining 13 children: Penny Meyers, Jonathan Meyers, Tracy Friend, Kelly Ovard, Joshua Meyers, Jacob Meyers, Joseph Meyers, Sarah Griesmeyer, Kimberly Morrison, Rachael Wynn, Valorie Meyers, Allyson Godwin, Anna Davis, and his 59 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
John was born in Ocala, Florida on March 31,1944. He lived in Ocala until he was 13 years old, then moved to Pensacola, Florida where he finished high school. On June 22, 1964, he married the love of his life, Maxine Seipert. They had been married for 59 years at the time of his passing. John graduated from Army basic training in 1964- having joined the army with an assurance that he could attend flight school and become a pilot. He graduated flight school in 1965 and moved to Germany with his family a few months later. His first tour in Vietnam was in 1967 - between tours he went to airborne school, ranger school, earned a degree, and was a flight instructor. He was sent back to Vietnam for a second tour in in 1971. After Vietnam, John worked in real estate, eventually opening his own brokerage, which he managed until he went back to flying as a civilian flight instructor in 1984. John retired from flying and instructing in 2011.
John was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed all things aviation, the outdoors, marksmanship, babies, and working on projects. He loved a challenge and couldn't pass up a good deal. He was a spiritual man and was very involved in his church. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
