Leo Hardy

Leo Hardy, a treasured soul, loving family man, and a veteran with a heart full of service, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024, in Thomasville, Georgia. Born on September 25, 1933, in Ponce De Leon, Florida, Leo's journey through life was marked by dedication, craftsmanship, and a love for the simple joys of nature and home.

Leo, affectionately known by all as a man of great character, leaves behind a legacy of love and hard work. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Faye Hardy, his parents, Shepard and Mary Lou Hardy, his son, Donald Hardy, his five brothers, and his sister. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his beloved wife, Nancy Hardy, whom he married in 2010, his daughter, Diane (Joe) Brown, his sons, Roger Hardy and Marvin Pyles, his adored 10 grandchildren, his 4 great-grandchildren, and his 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Rosette Calhoun, along with several nieces and nephews, including his number one and a half, Paula Pollock.

Leo's life was defined by his service to his country and his community. He proudly served in the Army during the Korean and Vietnam War where he carried out his love for the military to serve and protect our country. His devotion to shaping young minds was evident in his role as an ROTC teacher in New Mexico State, where he instilled the values of discipline and respect in his students. His analytical mind and handy skills found a perfect outlet in his 34-year tenure with Hall Cabinet Company in Dothan, Alabama, where he crafted cabinets with precision and care.

Outside of work, Leo was a man of many interests. He was an avid fisherman, often found reeling in the day's catch at Lake Seminole. His passion for the outdoors extended to his garden where his flowers bloomed with the same perfection he sought in every endeavor. Leo was also a culinary enthusiast, known far and wide for his famous dressing—a testament to his talent in the kitchen.

Those who knew Leo would describe him as not just analytical and handy, but deeply interesting. He had a wealth of knowledge and stories that he shared with a warm and engaging spirit. His presence was a comfort, his advice a treasure, and his life an example of unwavering integrity.

In honoring his journey, we remember not just the milestones but also the everyday moments that showcased his love, laughter, and the deep sense of satisfaction he derived from a life filled with meaningful work and simple pleasures. Leo Hardy's story is one of resilience, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to the things he held dear. He will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will continue to flourish in the lives of those he touched.

Leo's life will be celebrated on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 2pm in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel where his family and close friends will gather to share memories and honor the remarkable man he was. The family will be accepting friends an hour prior to the service. Military Honors to follow the service at Sunset Military Pavilion. He will be laid to rest in Memory Hill Cemetery.
