Kenneth J. Everett

Kenneth J. Everett, known affectionately as Kenneth to all who knew him, left this world peacefully on April 25, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on January 9, 1940, in Geneva County, Alabama, he was a son of the soil who carried the warmth of the South in his heart throughout his life. His final moments were spent in Dothan, Alabama, surrounded by the love of his friends and family, as he concluded a life lived fully and humbly.

Kenneth's journey began in the small town of Malvern, where he was raised alongside his siblings. The values of family and community were instilled in him from a young age, shaping the man he would become. After graduating from Slocomb High School in 1957, Kenneth embarked on a varied career path that allowed him to apply his talents to several industries. He worked diligently at Twitchell from 1957-1960, then Havatampa Cigar and Candy Company from 1960-1971, and lastly, First-Alabama Bank from 1971-1976. He soon found his true calling in real estate in 1976. His dedication and entrepreneurial spirit led to the creation of a successful family business that spanned three generations.

His commitment to service was not limited to his professional endeavors. Kenneth's deep faith was evident through his longstanding involvement with Southside Baptist Church, where he held the honor of Deacon Chairman. His passion for public service was further demonstrated during his tenure as the Mayor of Dothan from 1981 to 1985, a period he often reflected on with pride and joy.

Kenneth's life was also marked by his time in the Army National Guard, where he served his country with the same dedication he applied to every aspect of his life. His sense of duty and patriotism were cornerstones of his character.

Kenneth was a man of great passions and a generous heart. He lived by a simple yet profound motto that he kept displayed in his office: "People will forget what you say. They will forget what you do, but they will never forget how you made them feel." True to these words, Kenneth's legacy is one of kindness, compassion, and an unwavering ability to make others feel valued and loved.

He leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife, Linda McDuffie Everett; his sister, Sue Hughes (Ronald); his brothers, Randall, Terry (Linda), and Rodney (Lucy); his sons, Michael (Laura), and Bryant (Callie); his stepdaughters, Donna and Crickett (Mitch); his cherished grandchildren, Justin (Angela), Travis (Carolina), Ryland (Megan), Marshall, Jordyn (Courtney), Taylor (Joe), Martin (Hailey), Carson (Kristy), and Haley; and his adored great-grandchildren, Locklin, Braden, Grayson, Ellorie, Mary David, Maddox, Selinda, and Gunnar. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was predeceased by his parents, John Bryant and Mamie S. Everett; his first wife, Annie Jean Everett; his sister, Ruby Nell Park; and his brothers, Paul, Charlie, Larry, and Donald Gene Everett.

A Celebration of Kenneth's Life will be held at First Baptist Church on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 3:30 pm with Dr. Taylor Rutland and Pastor Scotty Scott officiating. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 2 pm. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Pinckard Cemetery, where Kenneth will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to your favorite cancer organization.

Kenneth J. Everett will be remembered as a faith-filled, passionate, and generous man who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and his presence sorely missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire those who carry on his legacy of love and service.
