Carolyn B. Strickland Obituary

Carolyn Strickland was born January 23, 1924, in Brocton, Illinois, to Emil F. Wiese and Thelma Browning Wiese. She had three sisters and two brothers who all preceded her in death. Carolyn died November 17, 2021 in Mobile, Alabama. Carolyn graduated from Homer Community High School, Homer, IL in 1942. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas D. Maxwell in December, 1942. They had three children together. The couple moved to Moultrie, Georgia in about 1951 and then to Dothan, Alabama in 1955. They divorced in 1971. Carolyn married K. L. Strickland in 1974.

During her time in Dothan, Carolyn worked for several years at Sears Department Store in sales and in the office. K. L. passed away in 2001 and in 2002 she moved to Mobile, AL to be near her daughter. While in Mobile, Carolyn resided at University Oaks Assisted Living until 2017 when she moved to Crowne Health Care of Mobile where she was living at the time of her death.

In earlier years, Carolyn loved socializing, cooking, and dancing. Always young at heart, she enjoyed shopping and paid great attention to her grooming. She was always "flirtatious," ready to catch the eye of an admirer. When health permitted, she enjoyed walking, watching football on TV, and loved to have family visit. A favorite resident at Crowne, she was known for her witty remarks and sense of humor. Despite many health problems over the years, Carolyn had tenacity and an inner strength.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her sisters, Irma Smith, Christine Morrison & Joan Tate & her brothers Lowell & Ron Wiese. She is survived by her children, Mike Maxwell (Julie) of Ozark, AL, Debbie Sanguras of Hood River, OR, and Angela McLaney (Butch) of Mobile, AL. She is also survived by grandchildren Todd Sanguras, Tracy Norton, Lindsey Cook, Greg McLaney, Jennifer Duncan and Timothy McLaney and great grandchildren Anika & Beckam Sanguras, Austin Norton, Kennedy & Kameran Cook, Trey, Wimberly, and Mallie McLaney, and Finn Duncan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service is planned at the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Headland, AL at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home in Midland City, AL.
