A great man, awesome father, wonderful husband and a phenomenal friend! Ever since Mr Downes and family moved to Dothan and meeting him for the first time when we were just youngsters/teenagers in high school he was a father to us all whether he knew any of us or we had just met, him and his wife Helen both shared the mother and father love for us all showing no favoritism or hate to anyone. I can remember us all gathering at their house and if you was new to the family of friends you couldn't really tell who was actually family and who was just friends, they treated us all the same.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish I had met him. I love all the pictures of him and the family. The posts I read, tell me he was a wonderful and caring man. Loved by all and that says he was very special. Even though I have never met him, he will always be special to me. If it wasn't for him, I would have never found all of you. I love you all and I'm sending prayers for comfort and peace during this difficult time.

Just want to take a moment to let all of you know how sad I am to hear about the passing of my dear Uncle Larry. I will always hold such beautiful memories of him and my Aunt Helen, two of the most loving, compassionate, Christ-like people that I know. Heaven is certainly a happier place now that the two of them are together. I will always be grateful for Uncle Larry’s example and all the hours of labor working on our family history. Memories of joy, laughter, and love and selfless giving will always be a part of me.

Wish we could be there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
